Dungeon Generator Test 0.1
A downloadable Prototype
Based on a tutorial from Blackthornprod, this program uses a set of twelve tiles to produce a procedural dungeon.
Each open door corresponds to a spawn point, with a variable to note whether it opens to the north, south, east, or west. The center room has four doors, each with a spawn point that creates another room from one of four templates. Each additional room has either one or two open doors. A room with one door will end a path, while a room with two will connect to a previous room and continue the path.
Currently the generator is essentially what was shown in Blackthornprod's tutorial slightly modified for use in a 3D environment. Initially I had intended for a wider tileset with T-shaped junction rooms that would allow the dungeon to branch off into multiple paths, but this only exacerbates the issue with spawning multiple rooms in the same physical space, which would obviously not be a desirable behavior in a functioning video game. With them in the list of possible rooms, the dungeon also grows to sizes of several dozens of rooms, which is far greater than I intend for the levels of the future game to be. The next iteration will likely use a totally different foundation.
